Supporting Displaced Children in Myanmar: A Glimpse into Our Impact and Ongoing Efforts
At Displaced Orphans International (DOI), our mission is to provide essential support, education, and a safe environment for children who have been displaced due to conflict and instability. As we gear up for our biggest fundraiser of the year, the “Tee Off With DOI” golf tournament, we want to share with you the incredible work being done and the ongoing challenges we face in Myanmar.
Nutritious Meals for Growing Children
The children in our care receive nutritious meals three times a day, along with access to purified drinking water. Their diet includes meat, eggs, a variety of vegetables, and occasional seasonal fruits. Older kids actively participate in cooking and meal preparation, fostering a sense of responsibility and community. Sharing meals together provides comfort and helps enhance their appetite, ensuring they stay healthy and well-nourished.
Educational Opportunities for a Brighter Future
Education is a cornerstone of our mission. For the 2024-2025 academic year, which started on June 3rd, the children were enrolled in government schools. They attend classes from Monday to Friday, walking to school and learning from 8:30 AM until 2:30 PM. We strive to provide high-quality education to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need for a better future. The school year in Myanmar typically begins in June and ends in February, followed by a long summer break.
Ensuring Health and Safety
As the seasons change from summer to rainy, common illnesses like cold and flu, as well as dengue fever, become prevalent. Thanks to DOI’s support, the children receive a healthy diet, daily vitamins, and preventive medicine against dengue fever. We are grateful for the protection and care that keeps the children safe and healthy.
Spiritual Growth and Family Bonding
Spiritual development is also a key focus at our homes. We teach our children the importance of dedication and commitment to the Lord. Family devotions each night help establish a strong foundation of faith and foster a closer-knit family environment. Celebrating each child’s birthday with prayers, gratitude, and treats is a cherished tradition that brings joy and strengthens our community.
Overcoming Challenges in Myanmar
Myanmar is facing significant challenges due to the ongoing civil war and military regime. The conflict has displaced millions of civilians, most of whom are women and children. Freedom of speech and assembly are severely restricted, and the junta’s control over the internet further isolates communities. Economic sanctions have led to soaring prices for basic necessities, making daily life increasingly difficult.
Despite these challenges, we continue to support the children in our homes with daily meals, shelter, clothing, medical care, education, and spiritual instruction. Your generous contributions have been instrumental in transforming their lives and giving them hope for a brighter future.
A Special Outing for the Children
Recently, we rented a soccer futsal court for a fun outing on June 29th. The children had a fantastic time playing soccer and enjoying each other’s company. Such activities provide a much-needed break from their daily routines and create lasting memories.
Join Us for the “Tee Off With DOI” Golf Fundraiser
On August 16th, 2024, we invite you to join us for the “Tee Off With DOI” golf tournament at the beautiful Harbor Point Golf Course. This shotgun scramble event will help us maintain the lives of our 15 homes in Thailand and Myanmar. By participating, you will directly support 500 children, providing them with nutrition, a safe place to live, hope for a better future, and access to education.
100% of the proceeds from this event go directly to the homes, as DOI is a fully volunteer-based organization. Your participation and generosity will make a tremendous difference.
